Government has taken delivery of 100 new 29-seater buses as part of ongoing efforts to ease transport difficulties and improve mobility across the country.

The Minister of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, disclosed the development in a Facebook post on Sunday, April 5, 2026, noting that the buses form part of a larger procurement of 300 vehicles aimed at strengthening the public transport system.

According to him, the newly arrived fleet represents the first batch, with additional deliveries expected later in the year.

“In the meantime, 100 29-seater buses have arrived in the country to ease recent road transport challenges. They form part of 300 procured for the purpose.

“Another batch of 100 will arrive in August with the last batch of 100 arriving in November,” he stated.

The initiative is expected to enhance transport capacity, improve accessibility for commuters, and reduce the pressure on existing transport services, which have recently faced increased demand.

The buses are also anticipated to support efforts to decongest major routes and improve efficiency within the public transport network.

Earlier, in December 2025, the Minister of Transport, Joseph Bukari Nikpe, assured that both the State Transport Company (STC) and Metro Mass Transit (MMT) would receive new buses by the end of the first quarter of 2026 as part of government’s retooling agenda for state-owned transport operators.

The latest delivery is seen as a step toward fulfilling that commitment, while reinforcing broader plans to modernize the country’s transport infrastructure and improve service delivery for passengers.
