President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has urged African nations to take charge of their security challenges through strengthened regional cooperation.
Addressing the Second International Defence Exhibition and Conference (IDEC) 2024 in Accra, President Akufo-Addo emphasized the need for enhanced collaboration among African states to combat the increasingly complex security threats facing the continent.
“No single country can tackle these threats alone; it is only through enhanced regional cooperation and intelligence sharing that we can hope to overcome them and safeguard our future,” he stated.
Highlighting the continent’s progress in economic growth and political stability, President Akufo-Addo warned that Africa still faces significant security challenges such as terrorism, organized crime, and cyber threats.
He pointed out that initiatives like the Accra Initiative and the ECOWAS Standby Force are vital frameworks that can help African nations work together more effectively.
The President stressed the importance of addressing emerging threats, including cybersecurity and climate-induced risks, with the same urgency as traditional security concerns.
President Akufo-Addo expressed confidence in Africa’s ability to build a secure and prosperous future through unity and collaboration.
He called on African leaders, security forces, and citizens to remain committed to creating a safer continent.
“Together, we can build a future where Africa takes charge of her destiny, manages her own security challenges, and contributes significantly to global peace and stability,” he affirmed, urging continued alignment of efforts with regional and international partners.
