Kusaug Youth Accept Otumfuo’s Mediation Report, Pledge to Safeguard Peace

The Kusaug Heritage Defenders and the youth of Kusaug have expressed appreciation to His Royal Majesty Opemsuo Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and members of the mediation team for their role in resolving tensions between the Kusasis and the Mamprusis.

In a press statement, the group extended gratitude to the Overlord of the Kusasis Traditional Area, Zugraan Naaba Abugrago Azoka Asigri II, and the Overlord of the Mamprugu Traditional Area, Nayiri Naa Mahami Abdulai Sheriga, describing their support as critical to the peace process.

“Your overwhelming support has been instrumental in successfully concluding this peace process,” the statement said, while also acknowledging both the previous government under former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the current government led by President John Dramani Mahama.

The youth paid glowing tribute to the Asantehene, describing his leadership as central to the mediation.

“Special gratitude goes to His Royal Majesty Opemsuo Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, whose wisdom and leadership have been pivotal throughout this journey. He is not just a king for the Asantes but for the entirety of Ghana and beyond,” the statement noted.

The group pledged to protect the peace achieved and urged residents, particularly the youth, to reject violence and external interference.

“We must take responsibility for safeguarding the peace we have collectively achieved. It is our duty to prevent any external forces from disrupting the harmony we now enjoy,” the statement said.

According to the group, the mediation report and its recommendations have been fully endorsed.

“We have fully endorsed the mediation report and the recommendations presented by Opemsuo,” the statement said, describing the outcomes as “transformative.”

The youth commended their peers in the Kusaug Traditional Area for supporting the peace process, saying, “Your dedication is vital for the healing of our communities.”

They also appealed to members of the Mamprusi side to embrace the mediation outcome, urging unity and coexistence.

“For the sake of our unity, let us give peace a chance, allowing us to coexist harmoniously as we once did,” the statement said, adding that all well-meaning Ghanaians should endorse the mediation report.

The group further cautioned against attempts to undermine the peace process.

“We must oppose any attempt by outside parties to undermine the peace we have achieved, particularly any efforts to discredit this credible mediation report and its recommendations,” it said.

The youth welcomed the President’s establishment of a one-billion-cedi revitalisation fund, stressing that peace remains essential to its success.

“For this initiative to thrive, we must prioritise peace,” the statement added.

The statement concluded with a call for unity and collaboration “for the betterment of our communities.”
