Kofi Akpaloo, the flagbearer for the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), has called on the Electoral Commission (EC) to reprint the 2024 presidential ballot papers due to concerns over the inclusion of the late Ghana Freedom Party (GFP) candidate, Akua Donkor.
At a press conference held on Wednesday, November 13, Akpaloo raised alarm about the potential confusion that her image on the ballot could cause, given that Donkor passed away earlier this year.
Akpaloo argued that the continued presence of Donkor’s photo on the ballot could lead to voter confusion, potentially affecting the outcome of the election.
He emphasized that the EC had previously reprinted ballots when a new candidate was introduced for a political party, and he believes the same approach should apply in this case.
“If a new flagbearer for the GFP had been approved, the EC would have reprinted the ballots,” Akpaloo stated, underscoring the importance of maintaining the integrity of the voting process.
The LPG leader further raised concerns over how votes for Donkor would be treated in the event of her image appearing on the ballot.
He questioned whether votes cast for the deceased candidate would be counted and whether this could lead to disputes over election results.
Akpaloo urged the EC to take swift action and reprint the ballot papers, ensuring that the integrity of the election remains intact and that the process is free from any complications that could arise from Donkor’s posthumous inclusion.
