President John Dramani Mahama has departed Ghana for an official visit to France, where he is expected to participate in a major global health summit and hold high-level bilateral discussions with French President Emmanuel Macron.
The visit, which begins on Monday, April 6, follows an invitation from the French leader and forms part of ongoing efforts to deepen cooperation between the two countries while contributing to global health policy discussions.
President Mahama’s first major engagement will take place in Lyon, where he will participate in the 2026 One Health Summit. The international forum is expected to bring together world leaders, policymakers, and health experts to examine challenges in global health systems, food security, and coordinated responses to emerging health threats.
At the summit, President Mahama will co-chair a high-level session alongside President Macron, reflecting Ghana’s growing role in shaping global health discourse. He is also scheduled to deliver two keynote addresses, including one focused on global health architecture in collaboration with the Director-General of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.
In his interventions, the Ghanaian leader is expected to outline the country’s perspectives on global health security and highlight national commitments to tackling emerging health challenges, particularly through initiatives such as the Accra Reset Initiative.
Following the summit, President Mahama will travel to Paris for bilateral talks with President Macron at the Élysée Palace. Discussions are expected to focus on strengthening Ghana–France relations, with attention to cooperation in health, education, trade, investment, and regional security.
As part of his engagements in Paris, the President will also meet Gérard Larcher at the Senate, further underscoring efforts to deepen parliamentary and diplomatic ties between the two nations.
President Mahama is expected to return to Accra after completing his official engagements in France.
