Senior Researcher at the Africa Policy Lens, Dr. Hayford Ayerakwa, says recent internal assessments by the think tank suggest that the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) favours Kennedy Agyapong as the ruling NPP’s flagbearer because they perceive him as a more beatable candidate.
Speaking in an interview with ABC News GH, Dr. Ayerakwa stated, “For them, they will encourage strongly for Ken, because their analysis shows he is an easier opponent to defeat.”
He noted that the strategic tilt in support is partly behind the surprising cross-party backing Agyapong appears to be receiving, even as internal NPP dynamics continue to shape the lead-up to the January 2026 flagbearer contest.
“The NDC’s posture is tactical,” Dr. Ayerakwa explained, “and based on projections that show a Bawumia candidacy presents more difficulty for them in 2028.”
