Member of Parliament for Ofoase Ayirebi, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, has cautioned members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) against downplaying the political experience and contributions of former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
Speaking on ABC in the Morning, on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, the MP said Dr. Bawumia’s long-standing service to the party places him in a strong position within the race and warned that attempts to diminish his credentials amount to a misunderstanding of both politics and leadership.
“Those who underestimate Dr. Bawumia are doing themselves a disservice,” Kojo Oppong Nkrumah stated.
According to the Ofoase Ayirebi MP, Dr. Bawumia has served the NPP for about 16 years in various high-level capacities, including as running mate and Vice President, a period he says reflects commitment, loyalty and consistency.
“Anybody who thinks 16 years of service in any career is not long enough is a very confused person,” he remarked, stressing that experience accumulated over time remains critical in leadership and governance.
Mr. Oppong Nkrumah further argued that the Vice President’s record in office speaks clearly for itself, pointing to his role in shaping government policy and contributing to national development initiatives.
He added that Dr. Bawumia has served the party long enough to merit serious consideration from delegates, insisting that his track record should be the basis for assessment rather than perception or political sentiment.
“He has served the party long enough, and his track record is one that speaks for itself,” Hon. Oppong Nkrumah said.
As the NPP’s presidential contest gathers momentum, Mr. Oppong Nkrumah’s remarks add to ongoing internal discussions over experience, continuity and leadership within the party, with Dr. Bawumia remaining a central figure in the race.
