Former Health Minister, Dr Bernard Okoe-Boye, has been elected Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), following the party’s regional executive elections held on Saturday, August 15.
Dr Okoe-Boye secured 490 votes to comfortably defeat his contender, Alfred Boye, who polled 172 votes, giving the former Health Minister a winning margin of 318 votes.
His victory comes as the NPP works to reorganise and strengthen its structures in the Greater Accra Region following a major decline in its parliamentary fortunes in the 2024 general elections.
The party, which previously held 14 of the region’s 34 parliamentary seats, was reduced to five seats after the 2024 polls.
The result has intensified calls within the party for stronger grassroots mobilisation, improved organisation and a renewed strategy to win back constituencies lost in the last election ahead of the 2028 general elections.
As the newly elected regional chairman, Dr Okoe-Boye is expected to lead efforts to rebuild the party’s structures across Greater Accra while working closely with constituency executives and other party stakeholders.
His responsibilities will include coordinating the party’s constituency structures, mobilising supporters and helping implement decisions of the national leadership at the regional level.
Dr Okoe-Boye’s decisive victory therefore places him at the centre of the NPP’s efforts to revive its electoral fortunes in Greater Accra and regain some of the parliamentary seats lost in 2024.
