The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has uncovered a massive corruption scandal involving GH₵280 million at the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), with several senior officials implicated in abusing their positions for personal benefit.
In an official statement, Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng disclosed that an investigation, launched in November 2024, has uncovered a widespread network of financial misconduct and power abuse within the NPA, spanning from 2022 to 2024.
The probe revealed that certain high-ranking officials at the Authority orchestrated a corrupt scheme, using their regulatory influence to extort significant sums of money from oil marketing companies (OMCs) and other stakeholders in the petroleum downstream sector.
During a press briefing on June 2, Special Prosecutor Agyebeng confirmed that criminal charges will be filed by the end of June 2025 against the first group of individuals implicated, which will include NPA officials, executives of complicit OMCs, and their directors or senior managers.
