The Community Practice Pharmacists Association (CPPA) has announced a nationwide seven-day mourning period following the brutal and cold-blooded murder of Pharmacist Mohammed Zia-UlHak Zibrim, CEO of Zimax Pharmacy in Bolgatanga.
Zibrim was tragically gunned down in his vehicle on the evening of Thursday, June 5, 2025, just moments after returning home from work. In a statement issued on Wednesday, June 11, the CPPA condemned the killing as a “heinous and tragic murder” of a professional who was devoted to his community’s health and wellbeing.
“In response to this tragic event, from Thursday, 12th June 2025, the CPPA, being the largest practice group within the Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana (PSGH), will observe a period of mourning for seven (7) days nationwide. This act constitutes our initial line of action,” the statement read.
The Association is urging all community pharmacists across Ghana to wear red armbands or red headgear and drape their pharmacies in red as a symbol of mourning and solidarity. The act, it stressed, represents not just grief but resistance against a tide of violence threatening healthcare workers.
Pharmacist Zibrim was widely known for his tireless service, often extending pharmacy hours beyond the norm to meet patient needs.
The CPPA laments that such dedication is now being met with “hostility in the form of violence, including burglary and now, murder.”
The association warns that this killing could have a chilling effect on healthcare delivery nationwide if urgent action is not taken to protect frontline professionals.
