Former GNAT President, Rev. Isaac Owusu, has taken a swipe at the Education Ministry and the Ghana Education Service (GES), accusing them of paying “lip service” to the growing wave of indiscipline in senior high schools.
Speaking on ABC In The Morning on Monday, May 25, 2026, Rev. Owusu expressed concern that the continued incidence of indiscipline in senior high schools is undermining discipline and authority on campuses.
He argued that authorities, including the Ghana Education Service (GES) and the Ministry of Education, must move beyond discussions and implement firm corrective measures.
“If the students need to be dismissed, do it to serve as a deterrent to others,” he stated, stressing that strong disciplinary action could help restore order in schools.
He further criticised what he described as a lack of decisive enforcement, saying, “GES must stop the talking and do the needful.”
According to him, the situation suggests a worrying pattern of inaction by education authorities.
“It looks as if the GES & MoE are just doing the talking,” he added, calling for urgent reforms in how disciplinary issues are handled in second-cycle institutions.
His comments come amid growing public concern over indiscipline in senior high schools, including recent incidents such as the Ada Senior High School cutlass-wielding video, with stakeholders increasingly divided on whether strict punishment or reform-based approaches should be prioritized in addressing discipline in schools.
