Samia Nkrumah, former Member of Parliament for Jomoro Constituency and daughter of Ghana’s first president has confirmed her decision to run as an independent parliamentary candidate after leaving the Convention People’s Party (CPP).
Speaking in an interview, Nkrumah emphasized that running as an independent candidate represents a fresh approach to politics.
“I am running as an Independent to re-enter parliament for the Jomoro Constituency.
“The independent card, I believe is a new way of doing politics. “

“Urging Ghanaians to go beyond partisan, she stated that the “values and principle of the ‘Nkrumanism’ goes way beyond party. So why are we boxing ourselves in groups. Ghana needs to unite.”
“And how can you unite without people sacrificing and going beyond the system. The two party system has not worked to be honest,” she added.
Meanwhile, Dr. Patrick Ekye Kwesie, special aide to Nkrumah has denied her alliance with NPP as alleged by the Deputy Minority Leader Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah saying “She has never been affiliated with the NPP or NDC. We must disregard these false claims and recognize her as a genuine independent candidate.”
