The structure, reported to be an uncompleted school building located within the premises of Accra Experimental Basic School, was being used as a makeshift place of worship when the incident occurred around 1:00 p.m.
The building collapsed while congregants were inside for the service, leaving several people trapped under the rubble.

Residents and passersby were the first to respond, rushing to the scene in a desperate attempt to rescue those trapped. Some used their bare hands and rudimentary tools to clear rubble before the arrival of emergency personnel.
At least eight people have so far been rescued, although authorities are yet to confirm the total number of victims or the extent of injuries.

Personnel from the Ghana Police Service, the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), and the Ghana National Fire Service have since taken over rescue operations, cordoning off the area to ensure safety and prevent further casualties.
Crowds gathered near the site as the rescue effort intensified, with many anxiously awaiting news of their relatives and loved ones.
The cause of the collapse remains unknown, but authorities are expected to launch a full investigation, amid growing concerns over the safety of uncompleted and improperly used structures in residential areas.
Rescue operations are ongoing, and more updates will be provided as the situation develops.
