The Tema Regional Police Command has intercepted a green HOWO tipper truck loaded with a large quantity of plant material suspected to be Indian hemp and arrested two individuals in an intelligence-led operation conducted in the early hours of Sunday, June 14, 2026.
The operation took place at Afienya in the Greater Accra Region after intelligence was received from the Volta Regional Police Command, which had been monitoring the movement of the vehicle from Juapong towards Tema.

According to a statement issued by the Public Affairs Unit of the Tema Regional Police Headquarters, the truck, with registration number GN 2287-24, was stopped after a coordinated surveillance effort.
“A green HOWO tipper truck with registration number GN 2287-24 conveying a large quantity of plant material suspected to be Indian Hemp was intercepted,” the statement noted.
A search of the vehicle reportedly uncovered fifty-six (56) maxi sacks containing about eighty wrapped parcels of plant material suspected to be narcotic drugs in each sack.

The driver, identified as Solomon Akuaku, 26, and his mate, James Tetteh, 31, were arrested at the scene. Preliminary investigations suggest the consignment was being transported to Ada in the Greater Accra Region.
The suspects reportedly claimed that the owner of the shipment, known only as “Red”, was travelling ahead of them and guiding the movement of the truck.
The statement further indicated that the suspects remain in police custody assisting with investigations, while efforts are underway to locate and arrest the alleged mastermind behind the consignment.
“The suspects are currently in Police custody assisting investigations, while the exhibits have been retained for evidential purposes,” the police statement added.
The Ghana Police Service, through the Tema Regional Command, reaffirmed its commitment to tackling drug trafficking and related crimes.
“The Ghana Police Service remains committed to combating drug trafficking and related crimes,” the statement emphasized, adding a call for public support in providing credible information to aid law enforcement operations.
