Black Stars Head Coach Chris Hughton emphasizes the significance of securing a favorable outcome in the upcoming match against the Egypt national team for their advancement in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), hosted in Côte d’Ivoire.
Following another disheartening 2-1 defeat against Cape Verde in the first group match of the 2023 AFCON, Hughton’s Black Stars find themselves at the bottom of Group B with zero points, while Cape Verde leads with three points. Egypt and Mozambique share a point each after their 2-2 draw.
During the post-match press conference, Chris Hughton voiced his dissatisfaction with his players’ defensive performance, particularly in conceding two goals. He acknowledged that the results were not as desired, expressing the team’s commitment to rectifying their performance in the upcoming encounter.
“Going into the Egypt game, it is a game that we need to have good results from, and that has to be the mentality. The players have to be aware of what this means and how disappointed Ghanaians are. We have no choice but to get favourable results against Egypt,” he said.
Chris Hughton added that the team is committed to rigorous training sessions aimed at addressing their defensive shortcomings, with the goal of bolstering their overall strength for upcoming matches.
The Ghanaian national team, the Black Stars, is set to face the seven-time champions, Egypt, in a crucial match on Thursday at the Stade Félix-Houphouët-Boigny. This encounter holds significant importance for their progression in the tournament. Following this, they will face Mozambique in their last group-stage match.
