The Presidential Elections Committee of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) has reiterated its commitment to conduct free, fair, and transparent elections without any bias, fear, or favour.
In a press conference held in Accra on the 21st of August, 2023, the committee offered a comprehensive update to both the general public and the party’s members. The primary focus of this update was to shed light on the progress achieved thus far.
According to the Chairman of the Committee, Mr. Mike Ocquaye, everything is in place for the party’s forthcoming Special Delegates Election, slated for the 26th of August, 2023, followed by the Main Election (Congress) scheduled for November 4, 2023.
Acknowledging the collaborative efforts of diverse stakeholders, including the general populace, the Electoral Commission, law enforcement agencies, and its associates, the committee expressed gratitude for the feedback and support extended during this critical phase.
Since its inception by the party on the 24th of July, 2023, the Committee has conducted a series of twelve sessions encompassing meetings, consultations, and engagements with various stakeholders. As a testament to its accomplishments, the committee outlined pivotal milestones that have been realized. These include the formulation of operational frameworks delineating the modus operandi for the Special Electoral College, logistical arrangements, distribution of the voter album among contenders for meticulous scrutiny, and the establishment of secure voting venues across regional capitals.
Furthermore, they highlighted the meticulous security arrangements, the composition of the Special Electoral College, and the management of proxy applications.
Also, the committee revealed that media entities would not be granted special accreditation. Instead, they extended a cordial invitation to the media to ensure comprehensive coverage of the entire process.
