The Ministry of Interior has confirmed that Friday, November 8, 2024, will not be recognized as a public holiday, even though the 2024 National Farmers’ Day will be observed on that day.
This announcement comes in response to the rescheduling of the event from its customary date on the first Friday of December, which would have been December 6 this year.
Farmers and citizens who anticipated a holiday may have to revise their plans, as this change disrupts tradition while recognizing the significance of upcoming national elections.
According to a statement from the Ministry, the early celebration on November 8 is solely to accommodate the general elections but does not affect the standing of December 6 as the statutory holiday.
The Ministry wrote;
“The general public is hereby informed that Friday, 8th November 2024, is NOT a Public Holiday even though the 2024 National Farmers’ Day will be observed on that day.
However, Friday, 6th December 2024, which marks Farmers’ Day, remains a Statutory Public Holiday and will be observed as such throughout the country.
Signed:
HENRY QUARTEY (MP)
MINISTER FOR THE INTERIOR”
