The Executive Council has handed over buses to nine (9) Division One League clubs. The presentation ceremony, attended by members of the Executive Council, fulfils a pledge made by GFA President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku during the 29th Ordinary Congress in Kumasi in 2023.
The beneficiaries, representing the top three teams from each zone of the Division One League after last season, were awarded buses as part of the Association’s capacity-building strategy. This initiative is designed to motivate clubs to perform at their highest levels while alleviating their transportation burden.
Zone 1 Winners: Young Apostles FC – 1st place (Now in the Premier League) Techiman Heroes FC – 2nd place Victory Club Warriors – 3rd place
Zone 2 Winners: Basake Holy Stars – 1st place (Now in the Premier League) New Edubiase FC – 2nd place Mysterious Ebusua Dwarfs – 3rd place
Zone 3 Winners: Vision FC – 1st place (Now in the Premier League) Okwawu United – 2nd place Hohoe United – 3rd place
The buses are expected to serve as a logistical boost for the clubs thus improving their operational capacity.
Speaking at the event, President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku reiterated the GFA’s dedication to advancing football in Ghana. “This initiative is part of our broader strategy to empower clubs and ensure sustainable development of the game,” he stated. He went on to say that the Bus Acquisition Strategy specifically targets the identified need for more comfortable transportation for the clubs, and is firmly in line with the Association’s theme of “fixing the fundamentals” of Ghana Football.
The move has been widely lauded by football stakeholders, with many expressing optimism about its long-term impact on the Division One League.
