Three passengers have died on the spot and 20 others are in critical condition following a tragic accident at Gomoa Okyereko Junction in the Gomoa East District of the Central Region.
The incident, which occurred in the early hours of Thursday, involved a VW Sprinter Benz Bus with the registration number GW 5477-24 and a Hyundai Grace with the registration GR 5899-22.
The crash has left the community in shock, with emergency services rushing to the scene to assist the victims.
Eyewitness Kweku Atta shared details with Adom News, explaining that the accident occurred when the Sprinter driver, heading towards Takoradi, made a wrongful overtaking maneuver and collided with the Hyundai Grace, which was traveling from Winneba to Kasoa.
The tragic outcome resulted in the deaths of two male passengers and one female passenger.
All 20 victims who sustained severe injuries are currently receiving treatment at the Accident and Emergency Unit of Winneba Trauma and Specialist Hospital.
In light of the incident, Winneba Municipal Fire Service Commander D02 Fredrick Adu-Poku has issued a stern warning to drivers, urging them to avoid unnecessary overtaking, especially as the Christmas festivities approach.
He emphasized that the accident could have been avoided if the driver had exercised more patience on the road. The Fire Commander’s remarks highlight the growing need for road safety awareness during the holiday season.
