Ahead of the festive season, the Ghana National Fire Service says, is taking proactive steps to ensure public safety during what is often a busy period for gatherings and celebrations.
Speaking exclusively on ABC News GH, the Head of Public Relations for the Ghana National Fire Service, D.O. II Desmond Ackah said, the Fire Service is promoting the use of simple fire extinguishers in homes and businesses, emphasizing their importance in quickly containing small fires before they spread.
He also urged the public to install fire alarms, which will help provide early warnings in the event of a fire, allowing for quicker and safer evacuations.
“In as much as we want to enjoy the festive season, we need to be mindful of these things that we do that create these fire conditions.
“Instead of the usual gifts, why not go for these portable fire extinguishers to use in their shops, homes, officers and then call in fire service to help understand how to operate these gadgets. So incase there is any fire outbreak, they can use them effectively.”
“Aside the fire extinguisher, we also recommend a gift of smoke alarms to be installed in our living areas, bedrooms and anywhere available in our premises, so it can alert all in time to escape to safety.”
