The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has expelled 280 of its members in the Agona West constituency for actions deemed to violate the party’s constitution.
The decision, which took effect on December 16, 2024, was made during an Expanded Constituency Executive Committee meeting held on Sunday, December 15, 2024.
Among those expelled is Cynthia Mamle Morrison, the former Gender Minister, who was accused of engaging in anti-party conduct.
According to a statement signed by Alhaji Gibrine Tanko, the constituency chairman, the expulsions were a result of multiple complaints from party members regarding the misconduct of the affected individuals.
The allegations against the expelled members include:
- Standing as independent candidates against the NPP’s officially elected parliamentary candidate for 2024,
- Supporting or joining another political party,
- Supporting an independent candidate in the December 7, 2024, parliamentary election in Agona West,
- Consistently displaying anti-party behavior in every election cycle.
The individuals expelled also include polling station chairmen, as well as the party’s women and youth organizers, who were all reportedly engaged in actions undermining the NPP’s objectives.
