Security Analyst Mutaru Mumuni Muktar has raised concerns over potential political interference in the work of the Special Investigative Team established by the IGP to probe election violence.
Speaking with Prime News on ABC News GH on Tuesday, Muktar acknowledged the team’s relevance, emphasizing its potential to address Ghana’s recurring election violence.
He praised President Mahama’s directive to investigate electoral-related violence and deaths in the 2020 and 2024 elections, describing it as a critical step toward accountability.
“It’s about time we ceased normalizing election violence,” he said, calling for a future where Ghana achieves zero election-related violence.
Muktar further noted that while the establishment of the team reflects the IGP’s commitment to resolving the issue, its success hinges on independence and transparency.
The team, chaired by Chief Superintendent Joseph Nanegbe, has been tasked with submitting findings within a set timeline.
