Tension erupted at the Adansi North District Assembly in the Ashanti Region as the acting District Chief Executive (DCE), Thomas Kwame Okrah, fled his office on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, after a group of furious Assembly Members stormed the premises to demand his removal.

The Assembly Members accused Okrah of disrespect, mismanagement of resources, and tampering with the list of delegates for the upcoming Council of State elections.

Why the Revolt? Allegations Against the DCE

According to the Assembly Members, Okrah allegedly altered the names of selected Assembly Members for the Council of State election without consultation.

“Per the law, two members have to be selected. As Presiding Member, I submitted the names to him for official endorsement. However, I later discovered the names had been changed without our approval,” Presiding Member Dominic Odame Kusi revealed.

Additionally, Okrah is accused of misusing the Assembly’s DRIP machines for personal gain.

“We also realized that the DRIP machines were being used for unauthorized work. When we checked, names had been changed. We had to pack them up,” Kusi added.

DCE Flees as Police Restore Calm

As tensions escalated, Okrah reportedly vacated his office before the protestors could confront him, prompting the Fomena police to intervene and restore order.

Despite the calm, the Assembly Members have filed a petition with the Regional Coordinating Council, the Ashanti Regional Minister, and local chiefs, demanding Okrah’s immediate transfer.

“A petition has been sent, and we have been assured that we will hear from them soon,” Kusi stated.

Meanwhile, Okrah declined to comment on the matter.
