The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC), Dr. Rashid Tanko, has announced plans to expand telephony and network coverage to underserved and unserved communities across the country.
He emphasized that the initiative aims to improve communication access for rural populations and bridge the digital divide.
Speaking in an interview on ABC NEWS, Dr. Tanko reaffirmed GIFEC’s commitment to enhancing connectivity through training programs and infrastructure development.
“We hear people complaining of not having networks. H.E. the President wants me to deal with that aspect,” he stated.
He further referenced Act 775 of Parliament, which mandates GIFEC to address gaps in rural telephony, internet access, and ICT services.
Dr. Tanko assured that the expansion project would ensure that rural communities are not left behind in Ghana’s digital transformation. “We must make sure that we bring the rural folks on board,” he stressed.
The move aligns with the government’s broader vision of fostering nationwide digital inclusion and economic growth through improved telecommunication access.
