John Jinapor launches pilot project for renewable outboard motors

Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, has announced a pilot project aimed at transitioning fisherfolk from fossil fuel-powered outboard motors to renewable, chargeable alternatives.

The initiative, unveiled at the 2025 Sustainable Energy Policy Dialogue at the GIMPA Executive Conference Centre, seeks to reduce operational costs for fishermen by eliminating their dependence on fuel.

The project aligns with the government’s broader sustainability agenda, promoting renewable energy solutions in key sectors.

By adopting chargeable outboard motors, the initiative not only reduces carbon emissions but also enhances economic efficiency for fishing communities.

The Ministry of Energy plans to assess the project’s impact before scaling it nationwide.
