Chief of Army Staff, Major General Lawrence Kwaku Gbetanu, has appealed to the rival factions in Bawku to support ongoing peace efforts, warning that any further acts of violence will be met with firm military response.
During a media briefing following his tour of the conflict-hit area in the Upper East Region, he emphasized the Ghana Armed Forces’ commitment to maintaining law and order.
“Their days are numbered. There will be no safe haven for those who choose the path of violence,” he stated, cautioning that attacks on civilians or military personnel will be treated as acts of extremism.
Major General Gbetanu urged the youth and traditional leaders to redirect their energies toward rebuilding the community rather than fueling hostilities.
“Your future does not lie in bloodshed but in building a united and peaceful Bawku,” he noted.
He also revealed that orders have been given for the retrieval of all illegal weapons in circulation within the area.
Commending the efforts of security personnel, the Army Chief praised their professionalism and resilience in navigating one of the country’s most volatile security challenges.
