President John Dramani Mahama has announced that no additional disciplinary action will be taken against the acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board, Sammy Gyamfi, following the circulation of a controversial video.
The video, which went viral last week, showed Mr. Gyamfi handing an undisclosed amount of U.S. dollars to evangelist Patricia Asiedua Asiamah, widely known as Nana Agradaa.
The footage sparked public outrage and calls from civil society and opposition figures for Gyamfi’s dismissal, citing potential breaches of the Foreign Exchange Act and ethical misconduct.
At a press briefing on Wednesday, Minister of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, confirmed the President’s stance, stating that Mr. Mahama has accepted Gyamfi’s public apology.
He emphasized that the President’s response was guided by a desire to maintain stability within public institutions while still holding individuals accountable for their actions.
Nonetheless, the President has issued a strong caution to Mr. Gyamfi and all other public officials, urging them to strictly comply with the Code of Conduct to preserve public trust.
Mr. Kwakye Ofosu reiterated President Mahama’s ongoing commitment to ethical governance and transparency, noting that while the decision may be controversial, it reflects a balanced approach to discipline and reform within the public sector.
