The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has assured the public that comprehensive measures are in place to prevent and detect malpractices during the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), which officially commenced today, June 11.

Speaking on ABC in the Morning, Head of Public Affairs, John Kapi, emphasized strengthened collaborations with security agencies. “We always have this collaboration with the Ghana Police Service and the NIB. This time around, we’ve asked for a much more closer collaboration and an increased police presence at centres — and not in the examination halls,” he said.

He further noted that WAEC’s own personnel are also deployed to support supervisors and ensure calm at the various examination centres.

This year’s BECE has seen a total of 603,328 candidates participating nationwide. The cohort includes 297,250 males and 306,078 females from both public and private schools.

The exams will run until Tuesday, June 18. Meanwhile, the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Prof. Ernest Kofi Davis, has urged all candidates to avoid any form of examination malpractice.

He also warned invigilators and supervisors to remain professional in their conduct, stressing that any breach could lead to immediate dismissal.
