President John Dramani Mahama has declared that his administration has transitioned from mere slogans to practical, transformative policies as he officially launched Ghana’s 24-hour economy initiative.
Speaking at the unveiling ceremony on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, President Mahama emphasised that the policy is designed to drive continuous production and business operations across key sectors.
“We needed an integrated, bold, and coherent approach. The 24-Hour Plus programme is that answer,” he stated.
“We’ve moved from slogan to strategy today,” he added, underscoring the urgency of moving Ghana beyond economic dependency and excessive importation.
President Mahama also drew inspiration from Ghana’s first president, saying, “Today we are recreating Kwame Nkrumah’s dream.”
He explained that the Volta Lake, originally envisioned for more than power generation, will now be repositioned to support irrigation, agriculture, and serve as a major transport corridor.
“We will turn the lake into a central travel corridor that will connect the North to the East,” he announced. The President further noted that while government will facilitate the policy, the private sector will be at the forefront of its implementation: “The private sector will lead the 24-Hour Plus programme. The government will facilitate and not dominate.”
