Member of Parliament and a member of the Health Committee, Alexander Akwesi Acquah, has demanded that the government disclose the identities of individuals arrested in connection with the recent assault on nurses and health professionals at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital (Ridge).
Speaking to ABC News GH, Mr. Acquah described the incident as “condemnable,” stressing that the public deserves to know the status of the arrests.
He added, “If really an arrest has been made, it needs to be made public so we know our next step. We in the minority also call for the arrest of Ralph.”
His call comes after Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh confirmed on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show that some arrests had been made, although he declined to confirm whether social media activist Ralph St. Williams, who allegedly led the assault, was among them.
The Minister explained that the matter was in the hands of the police and urged the public to allow due process to take its course.
“No one is above the laws of this country,” Mr. Akandoh stressed, assuring that investigations were on course.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) has issued a 48-hour ultimatum to the police to arrest Ralph St. Williams and his accomplices, warning of further action if authorities fail to act.
The Ministry of Health has also inaugurated a five-member committee, comprising legal and health experts, to investigate the incident and strengthen hospital security protocols to protect frontline workers.
