The Chief of the Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Godwin Livinus Bessing, has announced that the Ghana Navy is at an advanced stage of acquiring offshore patrol vessels as part of efforts to strengthen maritime security.
He made this disclosure during the Ghana Navy Memorial Day Celebration held in Sekondi on Sunday, September 14.
Rear Admiral Bessing explained that the move is a strategic step to expand the Navy’s operational capacity and readiness to address both traditional and emerging threats in Ghana’s territorial waters.
“Plans are far advanced for the acquisition of offshore patrol vessels to further enhance our operational capabilities,” he said, noting that the new assets will significantly improve the Navy’s ability to secure the maritime domain.
The ceremony also provided an opportunity to pay tribute to naval personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty.
Rear Admiral Bessing assured the families of the fallen officers that their sacrifices will always be remembered and honoured.
