Police personnel previously stationed at the Kukurantumi Police Station have officially reported to duty at the Eastern Regional Headquarters in Koforidua Galloway.
This follows the directive from the Inspector General of Police, communicated through a statement signed by the Eastern Regional Command Staff Officer, Superintendent George Peprah Mills, ordering the closure of the Kukurantumi Police Station on Sunday, September 22, after violent attacks by members of the community.
Citi News sources at the Eastern Regional Command confirmed that all personnel affected by the closure resumed work at the regional command on Monday morning.
The source further indicated that there were no suspects in custody prior to the closure. Meanwhile, the two injured officers who were treated and discharged are under continuous medical supervision at the Police Hospital in Galloway.
Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the death of a suspect in custody, which sparked the unrest, are said to be making progress.
Both the Police Professional Standards Bureau and the Criminal Investigations Department are engaging stakeholders to establish the facts and ensure accountability as tensions in the community remain under scrutiny.
