Manchester United have confirmed the departure of head coach Ruben Amorim, bringing his 14-month tenure at Old Trafford to an end.
The Portuguese manager’s final appearance on the touchline came in Sunday’s 1–1 draw away at Leeds United. His exit follows weeks of reported internal strain, with sources pointing to increasing friction between Amorim and key figures within the club’s leadership, including director of football Jason Wilcox.
United’s decision was finalised after a meeting on Monday morning involving Amorim, Wilcox and chief executive Omar Berrada, during which the coach was officially informed that his services were no longer required.
In a statement addressing the change, the club explained its position, noting that “the club’s leadership has reluctantly made the decision that it is the right time to make a change. This will give the team the best opportunity of the highest possible Premier League finish.”
Former midfielder Darren Fletcher has been appointed to oversee the team on an interim basis. His first task will be preparing United for their upcoming Premier League fixture away to Burnley on Wednesday night.
Manchester United are expected to begin the search for a permanent replacement immediately as they look to stabilise their campaign and push for a strong finish to the season.
