The Suhum Municipal Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) Public Relations Officer, ADO I Akonnor Daniel Ohene Opare has called on drivers on the Accra–Kumasi Highway to exercise caution and ensure the safety of passengers, amid a rising number of accidents along the busy route.
Speaking today on ABC In The Morning, ADO I Akonnor Daniel Ohene Opare, expressed concern over the condition of commercial vehicles and urged drivers to remain calm and prioritize the safety of passengers.
“They [drivers] should relax and take passengers to their various destinations”, he said.
ADO I Opare emphasized the importance of vehicle checks before embarking on journeys. “They should make sure that all the cars are checked in a way that they are fit for purpose before they hit the road for commercial purposes,” he noted, adding that proper maintenance could prevent accidents and save lives.
The Suhum Municipal GNFS PRO also called for support from both the government and non-governmental organizations to better equip its personnel. “We are open to all NGOs, individuals, and the government; we need equipment to equip our men because we find it difficult to handle some of the cases at accident scenes,” ADO I Opare said.
As road traffic continues to rise along the highway, the GNFS stressed that improving safety requires cooperation from all road users, with careful driving and adherence to traffic regulations to help prevent further tragedies.
