Member of Parliament for Ofoase Ayirebi, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, has revealed that former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia was displeased with the conduct of some aspirants during the signing of a peace pact ahead of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential primary.
Speaking on ABC In The Morning, Hon. Oppong Nkrumah said the former Vice President expressed concern over actions by some contenders which he described as a clear violation of the party’s rules and guidelines governing the internal contest.
According to the Ofoase Ayirebi MP, despite what he termed “flagrant breaches” of party regulations by certain aspirants, neither the Presidential Elections Committee nor the party leadership took steps to address the misconduct.
“There are things that have gone on in this campaign that are very untoward and very unacceptable, in flagrant violation of party rules,” Mr. Oppong Nkrumah stated.
He further noted that while the offending aspirants were not called to order, Dr. Bawumia was instead invited to reaffirm his commitment to abide by the party’s rules at the peace pact ceremony.
“Unfortunately, both the Presidential Elections Committee and the party itself have not acted upon it, and yet they called on him to come and participate in this affirmation of commitment to abide by the rules,” he added.
Hon. Oppong Nkrumah stressed that the former Vice President’s displeasure stemmed from concerns about fairness and consistency in the enforcement of party regulations, emphasizing that others who had breached the rules were not sanctioned.
“Others are not abiding by the rules and they are not being called to order,” he said.
Despite these concerns, the MP described Dr. Bawumia as a unifying figure within the NPP, noting that his commitment to party unity and discipline remains unwavering as the party prepares to select its flagbearer for the 2028 general elections.
