The Member of Parliament for Akim Oda, Alexander Akwasi Acquah, has explained his decision to support Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia during the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) recent presidential primary, attributing it largely to the position taken by delegates in his constituency.

Speaking on ABC In The Morning, the Akim Oda MP said his political choice was guided by the will of party delegates at the grassroots level.

“ I decided to follow Dr. Bawumia because, the delegates in my constituency were for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia” Hon. Akwasi Acquah said, adding that aligning himself with the choice of his constituents was a deliberate decision rooted in party unity and loyalty to the democratic process within the NPP.

He further revealed that his support for the former Vice President was not without challenges, stressing that he worked tirelessly, despite opposition, to ensure Dr. Bawumia’s success in the internal contest.

“I went against all odds to ensure Dr. Bawumia’s victory in NPP Presidential primary,” Hon. Akwasi Acquah noted

Following the conclusion of the primaries and Dr. Bawumia’s emergence as the party’s flagbearer, the Akim Oda MP cautioned against internal divisions and blame-shifting among party members.

According to him, sustaining unity after the primaries is critical to the party’s chances in the upcoming general elections.

“I do not think that we need to start accusing people [supporters of other aspirants] and make them feel they are not part of it [Bawumia’s victory] because we need that togetherness ” the MP for Akim Oda urged.

Mr. Acquah’s comments come at a time when the NPP is seeking to consolidate support across its various factions following a keenly contested presidential primary, as the party prepares for the next phase of its electoral campaign.
