The Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) has confirmed that a fire outbreak at its Akosombo Substation on Thursday afternoon has led to a disruption in operations, resulting in intermittent power supply in parts of the country.
According to GRIDCo, the incident occurred at about 2:01 p.m. on April 23 and immediately affected aspects of the national transmission system, leading to power interruptions in several locations.
In a press release issued on the same day, the company said emergency measures were promptly activated to address the situation.
“Emergency response teams have been deployed to the site and are working around the clock to assess the situation and initiate immediate remedial actions,” the statement noted.
GRIDCo further indicated that technical assessments are currently underway to fully determine the extent of the damage and guide restoration efforts.
“A full evaluation is currently underway to determine the extent of the impact and to enable technical teams to commence processes to restore normal operations as swiftly as possible,” the company added.
Reassuring the public, GRIDCo said efforts were being intensified to stabilize the power system and reduce the impact of the disruption on consumers.
“We wish to assure the public that our technical teams are actively working to manage the situation, and every effort is being made to stabilise the system and minimise disruptions,” GRIDCo assured.
The company also emphasized that updates will be communicated as more information becomes available and urged the public to remain calm while restoration works continue.
GRIDCo says investigations and recovery efforts are ongoing as it works to restore normal power transmission across affected areas.
