Nine persons accused in connection with the shooting incident involving former Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament, Sarah Adwoa Safo, have been granted bail by the Adenta Circuit Court.
The accused persons, including Israel Kwadwo Safo, popularly known as Akofena and a son of the late Apostle Kwadwo Safo, were each granted bail in the sum of GH¢500,000 with two sureties.
As part of the bail conditions, the sureties are not required to justify the bail amount but are expected to complete and sign a bail justification form.
The suspects appeared before the court on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, where they pleaded not guilty to five charges brought against them by the prosecution.
The charges include the use of offensive weapons, possession of offensive weapons, unlawful discharge of firearms in public, causing unlawful damage to property, and offences relating to the prohibition of vigilante groups.
The accused persons are Israel Kwadwo Safo alias Akofena, Jehoshaphat Tamakloe Safo, Kwabena Safo, Benjamin Amoakwa Sam, Enock Badu, Richard Ayitey, Gideon Safo, Nana Kwaku Afriyie, and Kwadwo Safo Koomson. Some of the accused are reported to be personal security personnel of Akofena.
According to the prosecution, the incident occurred on Sunday, June 21, 2026, during activities at Kwabenya linked to a ceremony involving Kwadwo Safo. The shooting left the former lawmaker injured.
Investigators are also examining claims that the incident occurred amid tensions surrounding leadership and succession issues within the Kristo Asafo Mission following the death of its founder, Apostle Kwadwo Safo Kantanka.
The prosecution told the court that investigations into the circumstances surrounding the shooting are ongoing as authorities seek to establish the individual roles played by each of the accused persons.
The case has been adjourned to allow the prosecution to continue investigations and present further evidence before the court.
