Asante Kotoko Sporting Club have officially appointed experienced South African tactician Eric Tinkler as the club’s new head coach with immediate effect.
The appointment, announced on Friday, marks a significant step in the Porcupine Warriors’ drive to build a competitive squad capable of reclaiming domestic dominance while making a strong impact on the continental stage.
Kotoko described Tinkler as a world-class coach with an outstanding football pedigree, bringing more than three decades of elite experience as both a player and coach.
A Portuguese-South African national and former captain of Bafana Bafana, Tinkler holds a CAF A Licence and has built an impressive coaching résumé with some of South Africa’s biggest clubs, including Orlando Pirates, SuperSport United, Cape Town City FC, Maritzburg United and Bidvest Wits.
His managerial achievements include guiding Orlando Pirates to a CAF Champions League runners-up finish and leading SuperSport United to the CAF Confederation Cup final. He has also won multiple domestic honours, including MTN 8 titles and the Telkom Knockout.
Before embarking on his coaching career, Tinkler enjoyed an accomplished playing career. He earned 48 caps for South Africa, captained the national team at the 2002 Africa Cup of Nations and represented the country at the 1998 FIFA World Cup. He was also part of the historic Bafana Bafana side that lifted the 1996 Africa Cup of Nations trophy.
At club level, he played professionally for Barnsley FC in England, Cagliari in Italy and Vitória de Setúbal in Portugal.
Kotoko believe Tinkler’s tactical acumen, structured approach and proven record of developing players make him the ideal candidate to lead the club into a new era.
He will work closely with Director of Football Stanley Menzo Purl as the club seeks to establish a sustainable football structure capable of competing consistently for honours in Ghana and across Africa.
Board Chairman James Osei Brown expressed confidence in the appointment, saying Tinkler possesses the qualities needed to restore Kotoko’s winning culture.

Tinkler becomes the latest experienced foreign coach to take charge of the Ghanaian giants as expectations grow ahead of the new season.
