President John Dramani Mahama has nominated Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings and Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga as Ministers of State while reassigning two serving ministers in the latest reshuffle of his administration.
In a statement issued by the Presidency on Friday, August 7, and signed by the Minister for Government Communications and Presidential Spokesperson, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the President said the nominations had been submitted to Parliament through the Speaker for prior approval in accordance with Article 78(1) of the 1992 Constitution.
Under the nominations, Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, Member of Parliament for Klottey Korle, has been nominated as Minister for Environment, Science and Technology, while Majority Leader and Bawku Central MP Mahama Ayariga has been nominated as Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs.
The President also announced the reassignment of two ministers.
Kenneth Gilbert Adjei has been moved from the Ministry of Works, Housing and Water Resources to the Ministry of Defence, while Ahmed Ibrahim has been reassigned from the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs to head the Ministry of Works, Housing and Water Resources.
The reshuffle follows President Mahama’s earlier indication that his administration would periodically review the performance of ministers and other political appointees as part of efforts to strengthen governance and improve service delivery.
The changes also come as Kenneth Gilbert Adjei leaves the Works Ministry after overseeing key government infrastructure initiatives, including flood mitigation projects, housing developments and water sector reforms.
The nominations of Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings and Mahama Ayariga are expected to be referred to Parliament’s Appointments Committee for vetting before the House considers them for approval, as required under Ghana’s Constitution.
If approved, the appointments will further reshape President Mahama’s ministerial team as the administration pursues its governance and development agenda.
