Democracy Hub – organisers of the #FixTheCountry movement and #OccupyJulorbiHouse protests – has declared its intention to picket from December 1st to 31st, 2023 at the Jubilee House to call on President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to resign or be impeached by Parliament.
The group claims that the President has shown ineptitude in his administration in a statement dated Monday, October 9, 2023.
The group lamented the high rates of youth unemployment as well as the degree of economic mismanagement that has put young people’s futures in jeopardy.
“Democracy Hub, the Convenor of the #FixTheCountry movement and #OccupyJulorbiHouse protests, wishes to notify the public of its intention to hold a picketing event this December from 1st December to 31st December 2023 at the Julorbi House.
“Purpose: Democracy Hub believes that the President’s stewardship of this country demonstrates incompetence, a lack of integrity, routine abuse of power, and greed. We are perturbed by high levels of persistent unemployment among the youth; and the level of economic mismanagement that has jeopardized the future of young people as well as pushed nearly a million Ghanaians into poverty. We are further concerned about the deteriorating press freedom; extrajudicial killings and the persecution of activists calling for democratic reforms”.
The group, on September 21, embarked on a three-day protest dubbed #OccupyJulorbiHouse, where forty-nine of the protesters including a BBC journalist and his cameraman were also arrested.
Organizers of the protest said that they were, among other things, protesting the government’s inability and reluctance to attend to the economic hardship confronting Ghanaians.
