The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has declared victory in the face of recent developments regarding the Airbus scandal, with Dr. Tanko Rashid-Computer, Deputy National Director of Elections, asserting that the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) attempt to damage the reputation of former President John Dramani Mahama has collapsed.

Speaking on ABC News Ghana, Dr. Tanko accused the NPP of engaging in a smear campaign against Mahama, describing their efforts as “propaganda” that has ultimately “fallen flat.”

“Whatever they planned against JDM has fallen flat,” Dr. Tanko stated. He emphasized that the NPP’s allegations were nothing but fabrications.

“All along we’ve been telling Ghanaians that these people (NPP) are just doing propaganda. This is no news to us. Because all along we knew it was all fabrications, complete lies,” he added.

Dr. Tanko was adamant that the NPP’s narrative was designed to tarnish Mahama’s image but insisted, “They were just looking for something to tarnish the image of JDM. But unfortunately, it never stuck.”

These remarks come in response to the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) officially clearing former President Mahama of any involvement in the controversial Airbus deal.

Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng, during a media briefing, confirmed that thorough investigations found no evidence linking Mahama to the procurement and maintenance of an agency relationship between Airbus and certain associates.

This conclusion, according to Dr. Tanko, vindicates the former president and exposes the NPP’s attempts as baseless.
