The government has announced a 129.36% increase in the producer price of cocoa for the 2024/2025 season.

The new price, set at ₵48,000 per tonne, represents a substantial rise from the current ₵20,908, marking a watershed moment in the country’s agricultural sector.

Minister for Food and Agriculture, Bryan Acheampong, made the announcement during a press briefing, affirming the government’s commitment to supporting cocoa farmers.

“The producer price of cocoa for 2024/2025 season is GHS48,000 per tonne, or GHS3000 per 64 kg bag,” Minister Acheampong stated, emphasizing the scale of the increase.

He explained that the adjustment comes after the inter-season price of ₵20,928 per tonne in 2023/2024, marking one of the most substantial price hikes in recent history.

Cocoa farmers across the country are expected to benefit from this boost, which reflects the government’s prioritization of the agricultural sector.

During a campaign tour in the Asunafo South and North constituencies, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, running mate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, urged cocoa farmers not to be swayed by opposition rhetoric.

Speaking at a rally in Nobekaw, Dr. Prempeh reaffirmed the NPP government’s dedication to improving the welfare of cocoa farmers, emphasizing, “The NPP has consistently prioritized the welfare of cocoa farmers more than any other party.”

Dr. Prempeh also acknowledged the role of Eric Opoku, incumbent Member of Parliament for Manyhia South, in championing cocoa farming issues.

He noted that the NPP has worked tirelessly to increase cocoa prices over the past seven years, and with the latest price increase, the party’s commitment to supporting farmers remains unwavering.
