A security analyst at the West Africa Center for Counter-Extremism (WACCE), Mukhtar Mumuni Muktar, has asserted that the Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, was the aggressor in the alleged altercation with a police officer during the recent “Save the Judiciary” demonstration.
Speaking on ABC Midday News, Muktar stated, “The Police Officer was deliberately assaulted. It was the Minority Leader who assaulted the Police.”
He emphasized that circulating videos clearly depict the parliamentarian as the one attacking the officer, not the reverse, adding that the Inspector General of Police (IGP) had acted appropriately by inviting both parties for investigation.
- Muktar cautioned that the altercation between a lawmaker and a law enforcer is troubling, as both institutions represent critical pillars of governance and must not be embroiled in public drama.
- He stated, “We need to be very deliberate in our acts between law enforcers and lawmakers,” urging a measured and professional approach in resolving such disputes.
- While acknowledging that the outcome would depend on the scope and findings of the investigation, he commended the IGP’s decision to launch a balanced inquiry.
