Vitus Azeem has described the Attorney General’s withdrawal from the Unibank case as a politically motivated decision, stating that Dr. Dominic Ayine is bearing the consequences of choices made beyond his office.
According to the anti-corruption advocate, the move to discontinue the case was not solely legal but influenced by political calculations.
“I believe it is a political decision,” Mr. Azeem told ABC News, pointing to a broader trend where justice is compromised for political expediency.
He argued that the Attorney General is being used as a scapegoat to execute a directive that may not reflect the true spirit of Ghana’s legal and anti-corruption framework.
“The AG is bearing the brunt of a political decision,” he said, noting that this undermines the independence and integrity of the office.
The withdrawal of the case, he stressed, not only halts the legal process but casts a shadow over the administration’s promises to uphold justice and institutional reform.
Mr. Azeem’s comments reflect wider frustration among governance and transparency advocates, especially as other critics, including former MP Dr. Dickson Adomako Kissi, have called the decision a betrayal of public trust.
The concern remains that politically influenced legal decisions could erode public confidence and cripple long-term efforts to ensure justice in high-profile financial mismanagement cases.
