Experienced football administrator Dr. Randy Abbey and former Black Stars captain Stephen Appiah have been appointed to lead the newly formed Black Stars Management Committee. This strategic move aims to revitalize Ghana’s football fortunes, which have dwindled in recent years.
The Black Stars’ tumultuous 2025 AFCON qualifiers campaign sparked widespread concern, with the Management Committee members facing intense scrutiny. Even Mark Addo, the committee’s chairman and GFA vice president, was not immune to criticism despite his prominent role on the GFA Executive Committee Council. However, the recent overhaul seems to signal a fresh start, marking a new beginning after a disastrous campaign that shockingly ended Ghana’s 20-year streak on the continental podium.
NEW FACES TO TAKE ON THE BIG TASK
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has formed a new Management Committee for the Senior Male National Team, the Black Stars. The committee, chaired by Dr. Randy Abbey, an Executive Council member, will oversee the administrative and logistical aspects of the team. Dr. Abbey will lead engagements with the government and other stakeholders, while Stephen Appiah, a former Black Stars captain, will serve as Vice-Chairman, focusing on player relations alongside his administrative duties.
Other members of the committee include Samuel Aboabire, Chairman of the Greater Accra Regional Football Association and GFA Executive Council member, and Moses Armah, President of Medeama Sporting Club, who will handle operations and matchday activities, ensuring sponsor and partner interests are upheld. Richard Nsenkyire, President of FC Samartex 1996 and current Ghana Premier League champions, joins as a member responsible for special duties.
NO TIME TO WASTE, RESPONSIBILITY BEGINS FOR THE COMMITTEE
The Management Committee will play a critical role in the effective management of the Black Stars, with key responsibilities including developing and overseeing strategic plans and activities for the team, acting as a liaison between the Technical Team and the GFA, and ensuring seamless camping arrangements and logistical support.
Additionally, the committee will coordinate match and tournament schedules in collaboration with the Technical Team, follow up on the release of operational funds from the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, and organize travel arrangements, ensuring players and officials uphold Ghana’s reputation.
