The government has maintained the expedited passport processing fee for Hajj applicants at ¢500 and has established a special passport centre to speed up applications for Ghanaian pilgrims.
Announcing the initiative on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, at the Hajj Village, Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa stated that the move is aimed at easing the application process for Muslims preparing for the pilgrimage to Mecca.
He assured applicants that the Foreign Ministry has implemented measures to prevent delays in securing their travel documents.
To ensure a smoother process, the government has set up a dedicated passport centre at the Hajj Village, which will operate from March 4 to March 13, 2025.
This centre is designated exclusively for Hajj pilgrims, ensuring that applicants receive timely assistance.
“This special passport centre will serve only Hajj applicants, ensuring they receive timely assistance,” Mr. Ablakwa stated.
Additionally, to extend support beyond Accra, the Foreign Ministry is rolling out kiosks at regional passport application centres to assist applicants across the country.
“To make the process easier for all, we are rolling out kiosks at various regional passport application centres so that applicants outside Accra can also benefit,” Mr. Ablakwa added.
These initiatives aim to streamline passport acquisition and enhance accessibility for Ghanaian Muslims preparing for the sacred journey.
