The government has slashed Hajj fees from GH₵75,000 to GH₵62,000, marking a significant GH₵13,000 reduction as part of President John Dramani Mahama’s campaign promise to make the pilgrimage more affordable for Ghanaian Muslims.
The announcement was made on February 5 by Collins Dauda, MP for Asutifi South and leader of the five-member task force, who provided an update on the government’s negotiations with Saudi authorities regarding the pilgrimage.
The fee reduction is expected to ease the financial burden on thousands of prospective pilgrims, many of whom struggled to afford the previous cost set by the Akufo-Addo administration.
In addition to the price cut, the government has increased Ghana’s Hajj quota by 1,000 pilgrims, allowing more Muslims to embark on the sacred journey to Mecca.
