The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has officially named former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta as a suspect in four major corruption investigations, including the National Cathedral project, Strategic Mobilization Limited (SML), and other high-stakes government contracts.
Speaking at a press briefing on Wednesday, February 12, Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng announced that Ofori-Atta is now a wanted person and must return to Ghana immediately for questioning.
Agyebeng warned that failure to comply would lead to measures being taken to compel his return.
The Special Prosecutor dismissed claims that Ofori-Atta had left the country for medical treatment, stating that he must cooperate with the ongoing investigations.
He also refuted reports that OSP officials raided Ofori-Atta’s residence on Tuesday, February 11, instead alleging that the former minister had staged the raid himself to mislead the public and undermine the investigation.
The charges against him involve contracts related to Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), the Ministry of Health, and the National Ambulance Service.
According to Agyebeng, Ofori-Atta, 66 years old, left Ghana on January 2, 2025, and was officially notified by the OSP on January 24, 2025, that he was under investigation.
He was expected to appear in person on February 10, 2025, but his lawyers informed the OSP that he was out of the country indefinitely.
