Allied health professionals at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital have strongly opposed the decision to revoke the appointment of the Head of Laboratory Services, warning that the move risks disrupting operations and undermining previously agreed arrangements.
In a formal communication dated May 5, 2026, and addressed to the hospital’s Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Yakubu Seidu Adam, the Ghana Federation of Allied Health Professionals (Korle Bu Chapter) expressed dissatisfaction with the development. The group argued that the decision runs counter to a consensus reached during a stakeholder meeting convened earlier this year by the Ministry of Health.
According to the federation, the February 3 meeting had resolved that a Medical Laboratory Scientist should head Laboratory Services under the Sub-BMC structure. The arrangement, they noted, was intended to strengthen accountability, uphold professional standards, and enhance governance within the unit.
However, hospital management has since reversed that position and reassigned oversight of the Central Laboratory to the Director of Medical Affairs—an action the group insists contradicts the earlier agreement.
“This decision undermines the agreed outcomes of the Ministry-led engagement, established professional frameworks, and the integrity and autonomy of Allied Health practice,” the statement said.
The development, the federation warned, has generated unease among allied health staff and threatens to weaken trust in ongoing engagements between stakeholders and management.
The group is therefore urging hospital authorities to immediately rescind the decision and adhere to the position reached during the Ministry-led discussions.
“We respectfully but firmly request that Management reconsider and reverse the decision,” the group stated, cautioning that failure to resolve the issue could lead to further action by allied health stakeholders.
While reaffirming its commitment to professionalism and industrial harmony, the federation indicated it would be guided by “lawful and appropriate collective decisions” if the matter remains unresolved.
